Position Overview

The Senior Director of Project Services s is responsible for developing and implementing integrated project control systems and processes that support data-driven decision-making. This role provides the foundation for effective cost management, benchmarking, risk management, schedule management, and change control, enabling clear communication and reporting.

 

The Senior Director of Project Services is tasked with deploying project controls subject matter expertise to enhance predictability, accountability, and collaboration within the organization and with external partners. The position will have up to three direct reports, up to 15 indirect reports and reports directly into the SVP of Global Expansions who is part of the Executive Leadership Team.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities 

  • Develop and Implement Project Controls Framework: Establish a comprehensive project controls framework that integrates systems and processes across the organization, facilitating effective project planning, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Cost Management and Benchmarking Direct cost management activities, including budgeting, forecasting, tracking, and variance analysis, to ensure financial discipline and inform strategic decision-making.  Development and management of an internal benchmarking database for cost and schedule.  Coordinate with external stakeholders for industry benchmarks.
  • Schedule Management: Manage consolidated program schedules, integrating timelines with external partners in Construction Management and Engineering to ensure accurate progress analysis and forecasting.
  • Change Management and Risk Mitigation: Develop and maintain program risk registers and mitigation plans, ensuring effective risk reporting and alignment with enterprise risk management strategies.
  • Project Controls Software Management: Oversee the implementation and maintenance of Project Controls & Management Software (Ecosys) to provide a uniform platform for planning, controls, and reporting.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Facilitate clear, data-driven communication with internal stakeholders and external partners, strengthening collaboration and transparency in project execution.
  • Integration of Systems and Processes: Lead initiatives to integrate project controls systems with other corporate systems, ensuring seamless data flow and enhancing data reliability and availability.
  • Forecasting and Decision Support: Provide insights and analyses that enhance forecasting capabilities and support strategic decision-making, improving predictability and accountability in project outcomes.
  • Deployment of Expertise: Act as a subject matter expert in project controls, mentoring project teams and providing guidance to optimize project processes and ensure adherence to best practices.
  • Continuous Improvement Initiatives: Drive continuous improvement initiatives in project controls methodologies, utilizing lessons learned and emerging best practices to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Establishing and maintaining robust project controls systems: Maximize data reliability, enable effective decision-making, and ensure successful project execution.
  • Accountable for function financial results which impact organization performance.
  • And other job duties that may be assigned from time to time.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Project Management, or a related field is required.
  • Advanced in Engineering or Business Management is preferred
  • A certification in Project Controls or Management, such as PMP or equivalent, is preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in project controls, cost management, and scheduling within a Biotech / Pharma industry
  • At least 10 years leading, managing and developing people with a minimum of 4 years leading leaders (Managers / Supervisors)
  • Proven experience in implementing integrated project controls systems and leading cross-functional project teams.
  • Experience working in a changing, project driven organization
  • P&L oversight/responsibility
  • Change management / large transformations or green field environment
  • Outstanding organizational and leadership abilities

  • This role significantly impacts project predictability, accountability, and communication, directly enhancing the organization’s ability to manage projects successfully and collaborate with external partners.
  • Oversees team(s) to develop new methods and solve company-wide matters.
  • Interacts with internal and external executive level management, requiring negotiation of extremely critical matters Influences policymaking and strategy based on communication strategies and persuasion skills. Partners with executive leadership team for the function to provide cohesive direction towards company goals.

  • The position requires making strategic decisions related to the implementation and management of project controls systems, facilitating effective communication and decision-making processes.

  • Implements company-wide policies and practices. Provides input to executive management.
  • Anticipates factors that could influence strategies and company position in the market.
  • Establishes and develops broader company strategy and translates into multi-functional objectives.
  • Erroneous decisions will affect the company's success, five years or longer.
