Position Overview

Performs routine experiments for process or research and development engineering and records and reports the results.  In addition, this position performs diversified mechanical, electromechanical, chemical or electronic technical duties in fabrication, testing, debugging and documentation.  Supports engineering activities such as design, test, check-out, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electro mechanical systems, experimental design circuitry, laser/light transmission devices or specialized test equipment. Applications may include electronic circuits, photonics and logic systems. Works from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform testing, checkout and trouble-shooting functions. Performs operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment. Assists in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions. Assists in the design, construction, test and check-out of test equipment. Uses manufacturing, test, development or diagnostic equipment, including, but not limited to, test programs, oscilloscopes, signal generators and specialized test apparatus.

Job Description

SKILL:

Acquires job skills and learns company policies and procedures to complete routine tasks.

JOB COMPLEXLITY:

Works on assignments that are routine in nature, requiring limited judgment. Has little or no role in decision-making.

SUPERVISION:

Normally receives detailed instructions on all work. Works under close supervision.

EXPERIENCE:

Typically requires less than 1 year of related experience.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

                                                                                                                           

  • Performs experiments and tests on simple assemblies, modules and systems associated with prototype products
  • Performs basic set up of equipment in a laboratory and/or manufacturing environment.
  • Audits work for accuracy and reports discrepancies to engineering.
  • Correlates and reports results and observations of testing and experiments to engineering using databases and spreadsheet computer programs.
  • Works from formal and informal written/verbal instructions, specifications, technical manuals and engineering sketches.
  • Uses and maintains a variety of test equipment.
  • Works closely with engineers and senior technicians.
  • Compiles, records and reports test results.
  • Works on assignments that are routine in nature, requiring limited judgment.
  • Has little or no role in decision-making.
  • Must be a team player and be able to work in a team environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

  • High School or equivalent years of experience and 0-1 years of related experience.
  • Solid working knowledge of the use of Excel, Word and Outlook computer programs.
  • Knowledge of basic wiring, mechanical workings, chemistry and/or electronics.
  • Desire to maintain very high standards of process control.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability and desire to contribute both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to flex within the work schedule daily to meet the needs of the department.
  • Ability to follow prescribed safety rules and regulations.
  • Ability to read and understand formal and informal oral and written instructions, technical procedures and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisor, management and peers.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

  • Two years of technical schooling beyond high school.

Communication and Hazardous Waste training programs. Initial training is required upon hiring status and

every 3 years thereafter. Employees handling hazardous waste will insure that waste containers in their

work areas are properly labeled and dated. Employees will ensure that waste containers are closed after

transferring waste to them. Report any incidents involving hazardous waste to supervisor.
