Position Overview

The Process Mechanic 2 is responsible to perform general to moderate mechanical repairs to plant equipment and systems. This role performs routine mechanical troubleshooting and preventative maintenance tasks. Additionally, this role ensures systems meet stringent requirements of pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Job Description

Major Accountabilities:

 

  • Performs general to moderate mechanical repairs, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance to all plant equipment and systems (e.g., pumps, valves, agitators, fans, bearings, couplings, belt drivers, mechanical seals, hoists, hydraulics, pneumatics, on-off actuators, diaphragms, filters, fasteners, etc.)
  • Performs simple to moderate (and advanced, as needed) mechanical repairs, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance for autoclaves, glasswashers, clean-in-place (CIP) systems, homogenizers, centrifuges, fermenters, chromatography columns, LPC skids, and vessels
  • Issues hot work and confined space entry permits
  • Supports analysis of equipment breakdown (failure analysis) to determine root cause and provides input to help eliminate future breakdowns
  • Supports project engineering with design, installation, and validation of new plant systems, including facility, process, lab, and utility systems
  • Participates in large projects for maintenance support including tracking, reporting updates, meetings, etc.
  • Provides input for the creation or revision of written instructions for preventive maintenance tasks and standard operating procedures (SOPs) (e.g., charts, graphs, data records) using Microsoft Office or other document generation platforms
  • Assists facility coordination with planning equipment or system shutdowns for maintenance
  • Participates on FEMA teams and other process improvement teams, as needed
  • Implements system modifications or upgrades for efficiency, performance, and safety improvements
  • Locates spare parts and provides input for the evaluation of inventory stock levels, as needed
  • Documents all work performed on work orders and adheres to Current Good Manufacturing Practice (CGMP) standards
  • Adheres to all safety requirements and procedures and immediately notifies management or Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) when unsafe conditions or hazards are discovered
  • Performs other duties, as assigned

 

Knowledge, Skills or Abilities:

 

  • Knowledge of plant equipment and systems
  • Ability to operate components and complete system maintenance with assistance
  • Effective communication, both written and verbal
  • Ability to use root cause failure analysis tools for equipment reliability
  • Knowledge of GMP requirements
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Must be able to support 24/7 manufacturing facility, including shift, on-call and weekends

 

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED with 2-4 years of maintenance experience; or
  • Associate degree in mechanical, electrical, chemical engineering or related field with 0-1 years of maintenance experience

 

Preferred Education and Experience Requirements:

 

  • 2+ years of maintenance experience in a GMP environment
  • Experience working with CMMS, confined space entry, lockout/tagout procedures, and electrical troubleshooting

 

Physical Demands:

 

  • Ability to ascend or descend ladders, scaffolding, ramps, etc.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time up to 240 minutes.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time up to 240 minutes.
  • Ability to conduct activities using repetitive motions that include wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Ability to operate machinery and/or power tools.
  • Ability to conduct work that includes moving objects up to 33 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, push or pull, reach to retrieve materials from 18” to 60” in height, and use twisting motions.
  • Will work in warm/cold environments (0-100F)
  • Will work in small and/or enclosed spaces.
  • Will work in heights greater than 4 feet.
