Position Overview

The Technician 2, Electrician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and optimization of plant electrical systems. This includes but is not limited to medium voltage switch gears, transformers, and low voltage distribution panels. This role monitors and operates process control systems and equipment in assigned process and utility areas and troubleshooting and maintaining the electrical equipment to ensure these systems meet the stringent requirements of pharmaceutical manufacturing and storage environments. This role is part of a team required to support 24/7 operations.

Job Description

What You’ll Do

  • Supports electrical systems walk down inspections during construction
  • Supports system walkdowns which interface with Electrical systems post-construction phase
  • Assists with startup of all electrical gear to include Low and Medium Voltage switchgear, motor control center (MCCs), power distribution panel (PDPs), uninterruptible power supply (UPS), electrical panels, and end point equipment
  • Assists in the review of redline drawings for electrical systems
  • Interfaces with and supports engineering, operations, and construction teams during both construction and operational phases
  • Performs electrical maintenance activities in support of daily operation of the site such as conducting preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities for all electrical systems, such as Switchgear (Low and Medium voltage), MCCs, PDPs, UPS systems, switchboards, power panels, and variable frequency drives (VFDs) and motors
  • Interprets electrical and electronic circuit blueprints, diagrams, and schematics
  • Assists with the continued improvement and development of the electrical maintenance program to include safety gear selection, maintenance, and test equipment selection, and participation in the training program
  • Partners with procurement to obtain needed electrical supplies and equipment
  • Partners with system engineers and reliability engineers to support equipment enhancements and projects
  • Adheres to all Quality and Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) regulations
  • Assists in the development of maintenance procedures and plans
  • Supports site operations and emergency work orders during off-hours, as needed
  • Performs other duties, as assigned

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret design schematics for electrical systems & equipment
  • Ability to implement Electrical Safety protocols in an industrial environment 
  • Effective communication, both written and oral
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to support 24/7 manufacturing facility, including shift, on-call and weekends

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 2-4 years of electrical experience
  • Experience troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and testing electrical systems

Preferred Skills

  • Associate degree in electrical, technical, or related degree or U.S. military technical school
  • Prior experience as an industrial electrical technician
  • Experience in pharmaceutical or another highly regulated industry
  • Experience working with contract maintenance teams
  • Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:

  • May work in Mechanical/Production spaces that may require hearing protection and enrollment in a hearing conservation program. 
  • Will work in environment operating a motor vehicle or Powered Industrial Truck.
  • May be required to operate a pallet jack
  • Ability to discern audible cues.
  • Ability to inspect or perform a task with 20/20 corrected vision, visual acuity, including distinguishing color.
  • Ability to ascend or descend ladders, scaffolding, ramps, etc.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time - up to 60 minutes
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time - up to 60 minutes
  • Ability to conduct activities using repetitive motions that include writs, hands and/or fingers.
  • Ability to operate machinery and/or power tools.
  • Ability to conduct work that includes moving objects up to 33 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, push or pull, reach to retrieve materials from 18” to 60” in height, and use twisting motions.
